Q: What is transhumanism – is it just fusing technology with biology or something more?
LW: This is an important question. Christians are in the transformation business. We say, “If any man be in Christ, He is a new creature.” The new birth begins a process of transformation that starts with recreating the human spirit in the new birth and then involves allowing the truth of God’s Word to change the way you think. Hence, we say that transformation is a process that involves the Holy Spirit at work in us. In this process, you are “…transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Now, the Transhumanist says, “We have a better way to transform humans! We can link vastly augmented powers right into the bodies and minds of people. We can unleash supercomputing power, physical longevity, strength and. Through transhumanism, we can make man into a super machine – “Forget repentance and truth and the new birth, we can create a transformed human by merging technology into your brain and body.”
Transhumanism replaces God with knowledge. It promises to transform man, but it has no power to change the sin nature. It is the final rebellion of man in the garden, turning to the Tree of Knowledge and rejecting the cross, which is the only way to the Tree of Life.
So, we are heading into a global shift where a new religion is emerging that worships man by exalting knowledge in a way that will ultimately redefine what a human is. This agenda has already been vigorously advanced by transgender activists who have normalized the idea that men can be women and women men. The medical community will be the next most straightforward ramp into this dangerous new world. Much of the work will at first promise to enhance human life, like a pacemaker. It will eventually take over aspects of human anatomy and cognition until every part of human ability is integrated with technology to create a superhuman.
Right away, Governments worldwide want to supervise all this research under their military and defense apparatus. Why? Because A.I. (artificial intelligence) is a part of the transhumanist agenda, and A.I. can be weaponized, and perhaps, if done in conjunction with crisper gene editing, a new species of “super-soldier” can be formed.
The fact that the U.S. Department of Defense seeks to head up research tells you the ominous direction this can go in as A.I. becomes a government project under the defense departments and intelligence communities where work tends to go rogue and operate apart from government oversight. This is how the Wuhan lab in China worked under the Department of Defense to create a “gain of function” bioweapon with Communist China as a partner. It sounds like the stuff of sci-fi novels- yet it happened. It’s not hard to imagine that China is already exploring the military advantages of artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and the possibility of A.I. as a weapon with the ultimate potential of creating humanly augmented super soldiers with super endurance and low sensitivity to pain. It may not be happening this year, but the A.I. machines are now self-learning, which means they are multiplying capacity on their own, and what took years to program is currently being done in weeks. What happens when the program starts thinking and acting independently? The point where humans lose control of technology and their super-intelligent inventions take on a consciousness of their own is called – the “singularity.”
It is essential to see how all this will feed into the new religion of science. This religion exalts knowledge and rejects Christianity as a relic of primitive human development. Ultimately, all it will end up doing is making man a more powerful sinner with tools that earlier dictators could only dream of.
Q: How is transhumanism an attack on the image of God in humanity?
JE: It is an attempt to change and improve upon God’s design for humanity. Transhumanism is atheistic and humanistic and it doesn’t recognize God as our Creator. Transhumanism believes we are still evolving and can ultimately reach perfection and immortality without God. God made us perfectly and in His image. Transhumanism challenges both of those truths.
Q: What is the agenda behind transhumanism?
LW: At the highest level, it is a quest for eternal life. People who reject God still want to live forever. Who could resist the promise of expanding life to 200 years of age? Or how about the ultimate quest of preserving your consciousness in a transhumanist clone so that you could take your entire memory and upload it into another more workable body? Again, the distance between science and biology is on the verge of converging. It makes one wonder how this will play out in Revelations. What exactly could the “beast” be? Revelations 13:15 says: “The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.”
The promise of transhumanism is eternal life or, at a minimum, a better, longer, superior life without the need for religion or primitive superstitions. It will promise life, but like the devil, it will end up serving a more sinister end, namely, complete control of the human race. How so? Society always organizes itself into a hierarchy of some sort. The power of this technology will serve the elites who seek to control the masses. It is not hard to believe that the ones who see themselves as indispensable to the governance of the world will be the beneficiaries of the highest level of enhanced physical capacity, I.Q. upgrades, and longevity.
Q: How do you think transhumanism is paving the way for the antichrist?
JE: The antichrist is the ultimate humanist and mankind on his own without God is the spirit of everything the antichrist does. It goes back to Genesis 11 and the Tower of Babel. They were exalting themselves and trying to become their own gods. That is the antichrist spirit and it is the spirit of transhumanism.
Q: What connection is there between transhumanism, the fall of Lucifer, and the Days of Noah?
JE: Pride and the belief that we can achieve our own destiny apart from God. It is the exaltation of self and according to Isaiah chapter 14 that is how Lucifer fell and became the devil. In the days of Noah the Nephilim were the products of fallen angels mating with human women and producing a race of giants. That again was an attempt to improve upon God’s original and perfect design of the human race in His image and not in the image of fallen angels.
Q: Is any of this tied into current events?
LW: Elon Musk is already working on installing a wire that connects a human brain and his satellite technology. Imagine neuro-links for all humanity, plugging everyone’s brain into a singular monitoring supercomputer. However, given the fallen nature of man, it is not hard to imagine how one current aspect of transhumanist technology can be used to enslave the masses – vaccines. Vaccine technology is currently being modified with nanotechnology. This development infuses microscopic software into the liquid delivery system. This technology can cause each human to be marked and monitored in a perfectly controlled cashless society. The nearly invisible tattoo can be linked to a digital account for buying and selling. It also serves as a tracking device to monitor where you are. It can restrict your travel. It can keep you from meeting in unauthorized groups. It can scan your moods and emotions and reveal when you are not in emotional agreement or compliance with the pronouncements of the ruling class. It can monitor your reaction to a speech, for instance. This is not speculation; it is the thinking of Yuval Harari, one of the chief transhumanist architects who currently influences the World Economic Forum. President Obama refers to him affectionately as “the prophet.”
Q: How are we being conditioned to accept and even embrace Transhumanism?
JE: With the advent of health improving technologies being interfaced with the human body: pacemakers; Cochlear implants; artificial hips; knees; etc. Those things are all great but they are conditioning us to accept health and performance enhancing technologies that will help us see dramatically better and even through walls and in the dark; heal faster; be stronger; think dramatically faster and better; hear dramatically better; live longer; etc. These things will be wrong because they aren’t just things we wear or put on – like glasses or hearing aids. They will be interfaced into our bodies and change the essence of who we are. Over time as they become common place a person will be thought of as sub-human if they don’t have them.
Q: What are some of the emerging technologies that are arising, and why should Christians be aware of them?
JE: Neuralink is a technology invented by Elon Musk’s company and is used for the purpose of interfacing with the human brain. The stated goal of the technology is to help people with neurological problems such as Parkinson’s disease. But another purpose of the of it is to link the human brain to the cloud and computers so we can import information instantly and effortlessly. Again, it is an attempt to improve upon God’s design and to interface man and machine. Other companies around the world have similar technologies and one of them has invented an interface with the human brain that is wireless and doesn’t require surgery.
The most important new technology is A.I. When combined with Neuralink and other such technologies it gives humans unlimited knowledge and capacity to learn. It will also cause transhumanist efforts to be greatly expedited with the exponential increases in technology and information that will emerge soon.
Q: What is the biggest misconception about the history and development of the ideas of Transhumanism?
JE: That it is for the sake of improving humanity. It is not. It is for the sake of perfecting humanity apart from God and making us immortal and omniscient. It is based upon atheism, humanism and evolution!
Q: How should we respond?
LW: As the world of science rejects God, the God of the Bible will show up and demonstrate that there is a greater power. This is the story of Moses and Aaron when confronting the magicians in Pharaoh’s court, and it was the story of Peter and Simon the Sorcerer, who witnessed the supernatural at work in Peter and sought to buy it with money. The promise of transhumanist eternal life will fail because it is appointed unto man to live and die once, and after that, there is a judgment. This gospel of the kingdom will be preached and demonstrated in all the world. Transhumanism cannot change a person’s soul or cast out a tormenting devil. It cannot fill its recipients with supernatural love, joy, or peace.
